Wow! Europe was so long ago...2 years in fact (October 2014). But as I went to update my blog about my hike in the Sierras I realised that I had left out a brilliant adventure in the middle. EUROPE!
The highlights for me were surfing in San Sebastian and road trip through the back country roads of France. The quaint towns, the markets, the gorgeous scenery.
Firstly, we had a week in London with Kirk's sister...enjoying parks, pubs, the theatre and enjoying a 'locals' life. The Borough Markets were the BEES KNEES! Oh my. I personally felt 1 week was ample...but I'm not really a city slicker. We then flew to San Sebastian where 10 of us rented an Air BnB house walking distance from the old city. The morning hikes, surfing spots, crossiants, 1 euro breakfasts (espresso, fresh oj & crossiant), tapas, sunshine and happy hour on the rooftop all added to the fun. I even found some epic clothes that I still adore 2 years on. The Europeans seem to make pants a hell of a lot better than what I have found elsewhere. At midnight on our final night in San Sebastian we left the gang to catch a bus over the pass and enter into France...landing in Toulouse. A dodgey place...so we were glad to pick up our hire car (for 1euro a day, relocation fee!) and head to Bourdeux...I had always wanted to go here! & wow, did it impress me. The markets and old ruins were impressive! We then had 4 days to wind out way through the back country roads and arrive in Grenoble to catch a bus to Milan, followed by a train to Lugano, Switzerland, to stay with Kirk's brother. It was nice to hang with the family and eat Raclette a Swiss tradition but the town itself wasn't amazing. We ventured into the mountains one weekend which was beautiful, but it rained non-stop. Kirk departed back to Oz from here & I had an extra 3 days in Italy enjoying the Cinque Terra before heading home....a beautiful whirlwind sample of some new places in Europe for the 2 of us.
So...here are some pics...
